Today I went down to the airport and saw one of only 14 B-17 Flying Fortresses that can still fly. It is called the Liberty Belle and has a pin up girl painted on the front nose in a brown uniform leaning against the Liberty Bell.
This is one of my favorite plans from WWII and I can’t believe that I got to see one in person. I got to climb inside and check out the plane as well. The inside was just as awesome as the outside. I almost felt like I was going back in time sitting in one of the seats holding onto the 50 cal anti aircraft guns.
The best part was when they started up the engines and I got to see it take off and land. It made me think how amazing it would be to see this plane back in the day when there were thousands of them together at the same time. It would have been something amazing to see.
I hope that more planes like this can be fixed up to the way they use to be so younger generations can experience our history and have a real chance to see how easy we have it today.
